Winter is here!

Heat rises through my home

I huddle in my Snuggly

As I sit down to write this poem

Winter makes me hunker down

Outside, it’s cold and gray

Snowflakes swirl through the air

I wish I could run out and play

Snow boots warm my icy feet

Down coats, fuzzy gloves;

Winter has its cozy feels,

I grab my steaming mug

Sitting by the fire,

Wrapped in my blanket’s fur

A sudden chill creeps up my spine

It’s cold in here, brrrr!

Out of nowhere,

My nose begins to drip

A hacking cough rises in my throat

As my hot tea I do sip

A pounding ache grips my head

My throat is scratchy and sore

My whole body is shaking,

I’m frozen to the core

Carefully, I put down my mug

And hobble to my bed

My warm and cozy blanket

I pull over my head

Is this the Flu or Covid?

My mind begins to race

A virus or maybe strep?

I better slow my pace

I’ll have to call my doctor

And call in, sick today

I’m so achy and tired

I can’t wait till it’s May

Winter is here,

Cold seeps into my bones

I sincerely hate this season

You can surely hear my groans!

So let’s all move to Florida

Until this thing is through

I’m ready for some sun and warmth –

How about you?
