The Way Around

Once upon a time I had to fumble my way around my kitchen. My pantry items were not labeled in braille, so how was I to know which spice bottle was garlic powder and which one was black pepper – especially when they’re both the same shape and size? Of course, I could have opened each one to smell them, but that would be tedious and annoying. I usually had to ask someone what each item was – whether that was a human or virtual interpreter (more about that later) – which didn’t make me feel very independent.

Then I was introduced to an amazing app that changed the way I run my household and my life. I welcomed my independence back, and got to know my way around my own house with Way Around.

Way Around is an app that enables users to identify household items with information entered into the app. How does this work?

Say I want to label my onion powder. I enter the words onion powder into the app and swipe down to choose the category: grocery. If I want, I can further label it under more specific categories such as Dietary – nut-free, egg-free etc. or Certification – meat, dairy or pareve. I can also enter which date it was bought and when it expires. I then scan the onion powder label using the read button on my phone which writes the information on a physical tag. These tags come in different shapes and sizes and are made of different materials such as plastic clips and magnetic stickers. I then place the tag on the bottle where it stays ready for the next time I use the onion powder. How do I know it’s onion powder? By scanning the tag through the app which reads all of the information that I previously entered.

These tags can be used to label pantry items, storage boxes, cleaning supplies, craft items and electronics – just to name a few.

They are easy to use, and give me the independence I crave.

Using Way Around, I can cook, I can organize, I can clean and I can craft – thanks to my handy tags that keep me in the know.
